Our Team

Dr. Jennifer DiTrapani-Gimbal
As a kid growing up in Connecticut, Jennifer DiTrapani-Gimbal loved hiking through the woods with her family to the edge of the horse farm that bordered their property. She also fondly remembers learning to ride horses in New Zealand. These events demonstrated the power of the human-animal bond to a young Dr. DiTrapani-Gimbal, and her interest in veterinary medicine was ignited.

Dr. DiTrapani-Gimbal received her Bachelor’s in Animal Science from the University of Florida. In 2001, she began at the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. After attending Virginia Tech for her clinical studies, she started working in Rochester, NY before moving to Port St. Lucie. In 2009, with her husband Dr. Nathan Gimbal, she purchased Animal Planet and Morningside Animal Hospital, where she is now the Owner.

As a veterinarian, Dr. DiTrapani-Gimbal likes treating geriatrics because she truly believes that age is not a disease and older patients shouldn’t be written off without hope. She has a special place in her heart for animals with no one to advocate for them, like feral and homeless cats. She also enjoys treating small mammals like rats, guinea pigs, and rabbits.

Jennifer lives with her husband Nathan and their three children, Allison, Erin, and Claire. The family has several rescued pets: Madison, a 12-year-old island dog from Saint Kitts; Alphie, a Chihauhua discovered roaming around a client’s pool area; Monty, a 4-year old domestic shorthaired cat discovered snoozing at the kids’ preschool; and Frank, a 13-year old island cat in remission from diabetes. They also have a guinea pig named Princess T.

In her spare time, Dr. DiTrapani-Gimbal enjoys horseback riding, yoga, and organic/natural living.
Dr. Nathan Gimbal
Dr. Nathan Gimbal is the business CFO and managing partner. While his most time consuming job duties may be to his family, Dr. DiTrapani, and their three children, he is available for appointments at Morningside by request.

Our entire Team of Veterinarians highly respects and values our clients, and strives to educate as well as be attentive to your needs and the needs of your treasured pets.
Dr. Alejandra Gonzalez
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Alejandra Gonzalez grew up in Medellín, Colombia, where she spent her childhood exploring mountains, climbing trees, and rescuing any animal that crossed her path. Ever since she can remember, she’s wanted to use her skills to promote a great quality of life for the earth’s creatures—what better way to do that by working hands-on with pets as a veterinarian?

Dr. Gonzalez relocated from Colombia to Miami, Florida with her family and graduated from the University of Miami in 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. She then moved to Gainesville and earned her veterinary degree from the University of Florida’s College of Veterinary Medicine. During her veterinary-school career, Dr. Gonzalez volunteered with Operation Catnip to provide a monthly spay-and-neuter clinic for community cats, and also obtained additional training to receive the Maddie’s Professional Certificate in Shelter Medicine.

After graduation, Dr. Gonzalez moved to the Treasure Coast with her husband. She joined the Morningside Animal Hospital family in September of 2017, and has been tending to the area’s pets and animal parents as an Associate Veterinarian ever since. She has a particular fondness for the fast-paced challenge of emergency medicine, and she also loves to educate clients on the best ways to prevent dental trouble. Dr. Gonzalez especially likes to alleviate pets’ pain and discomfort with the power of dental cleaning procedures!

When she isn’t helping pets and animal parents here at the hospital, Dr. Gonzalez likes spending time with her young niece and nephew, hiking, dancing, and running at the beach with her own canine companions. She and her husband share their home with two rescued dogs: Abeja, a sweet and smart Chihuahua; and Canela, who loves to play with children and go for rides in the car.
Dr. Erin Morton
Associate Veterinarian
After graduating from high school in Bethel, Connecticut, Erin Morton moved to Brevard County, Florida where she secured a job at a veterinary clinic. It was here that she fell in love with the veterinary profession—helping animals during times of illness became a true passion of hers. While she loved being a technician, she realized veterinary school was the next step because she wanted to become a veterinarian!

Dr. Morton attended Ross University for her DVM and completed her clinicals at the University of Wisconsin. After graduation, she came back to Florida, applied at Morningside Animal Hospital, and now lives her dream of caring for your pets every day as an Associate Veterinarian!

Erin especially enjoys internal medicine cases and the problem-solving that comes along with them. She also enjoys educating pet owners on various diseases and what she can do to help. Dr. Morton says she has a soft spot in her heart for the small mammals—hamsters, guinea pigs, rats—as well as our feathered friends.

The family has a border collie mix named Rossie that they found under a tree in the Caribbean. Rossie was covered in ticks and malnourished when they found him—after taking him in, he’s now a happy and healthy dog and greets Dr. Morton and her family happily every time they walk in the door.

In her spare time, Dr. Morton loves being outdoors, either at the beach or hiking in the forest. She likes to bring Rossie along for added enjoyment!
Dr. Kari Lyon Kelly
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Kari Lyon Kelly is a 2006 graduate of the School of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania (PennVet). Her path towards becoming a veterinarian began while growing up and working on horse farms in rural Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. She eventually received her Associate’s Degree in veterinary technology from Harcum College, followed by her B.S. in biology from West Chester University. After college, Dr. Kelly worked as a veterinary nurse at the University of Pennsylvania’s world-renowned large animal hospital, the New Bolton Center, before pursuing her veterinary degree from PennVet in 2002.

Following graduation, Dr. Kelly interned at Mid-Atlantic Equine Medical Center in New Jersey. In 2008, in support of her husband’s successful pursuit towards receiving his PhD in Marine Biology from the University of Maryland, Dr. Kelly moved to Easton, Maryland. As an Associate Veterinarian at a mixed animal veterinary practice in Easton, Dr. Kelly both refined her surgical skills and began to concentrate on small animals. After 5 wonderful years there, she and her husband decided to move to Florida to further pursue their professions.

On a personal level, Dr. Kelly strongly believes in creating and maintaining an open, honest, and relaxed relationship with her clients. She states, “Being able to socialize with my clients allows me to educate them in a relaxed manner about their pets’ healthcare.”

Dr. Kelly lives in Port St. Lucie with her husband, Chris, and two small daughters, Paige and Charlotte. They also share their home with a very cute, but very loud snorer, Torin the French Bulldog.
Dr. Kate Walsh
Associate Veterinarian
Dr. Kate Walsh has been surrounded by nature and animals since she was a young girl—she grew up in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, where her father served as a Park Ranger in the National Park Service. Although she originally attended college to study genetics and stem-cell research, her perspective changed when she signed on at a local veterinarian’s office in order to supplement her coursework. It didn’t take long for Dr. Walsh to realize that caring for animals was her true calling! Now, she’s proud to work with the compassionate and skilled Morningside Animal Hospital team as an Associate Veterinarian.

After high school, Dr. Walsh moved to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah, where she graduated with her biology degree in 2009. She was married later that year, then headed to the Caribbean to attend veterinary school at Ross University’s School of Veterinary Medicine on the island of St. Kitts. Next, she completed her clinical rotations at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge before graduating with her veterinary degree in the fall of 2013. Dr. Walsh and her husband relocated to Florida, where she began her veterinary career at various corporate practices throughout the state before joining the Morningside Animal Hospital family in July of 2016.

Dr. Walsh is currently working on her qualifications to become a Companion Animal Rehabilitation Practitioner and plans on being certified by June of 2017. She’s excited to play an integral role in building the clinic’s Companion Animal Rehabilitation program, and ultimately bring state-of-the-art healthcare modalities like therapeutic exercise, massage, laser therapy, and more to the area’s wonderful pets. Dr. Walsh also has special interests in internal medicine and dermatology work.

At home, Dr. Walsh and her husband live with their beautiful twin daughters and a pair of spoiled Labradors, Drake and Widgeon. When time permits between work and family life, Dr. Walsh enjoys spending time outdoors, relaxing on the beach, fishing and diving, sightseeing, and practicing photography. She even runs her own successful photography business in her time away from the hospital!
